Reviewing the ExOfficio Give-N-Go Sport Mesh Boxer

A while ago I reviewed a bunch of the underpants I had tried in a quest to find a single style that was comfortable to wear both around town and when working out or spending time in the outdoors. Originally I said that the 2UNDR GearShift was my top choice and I was going to purchase a few other pairs to see how they held up as a regular use garment.

The verdict is in people and it's not good. Out of the 3 new pairs I purchased, one needed to be returned the first day I wore them because the stitching pulled out at the hem. Now 3 months later I only have 1 pair that's lasted. The original pairs I purchased of both the SwingShift and the Gearshift are in better condition than the newer pairs, but just barely. Really none of the 2UNDR underpants held up well so I no longer recommend you try them out unless you have money you don't need and you don't feel like setting it on fire for warmth.

Just about the time I purchased my 3 other GearShift underpants I also found the Exoficcio Give-N-Go Sport Mesh underpants on for a good deal on Amazon so I purchased a pair of those as well and…well read on.

These come in a 6" and 9" version. On the Under Armour boxers I've had the 9" feels super long and would continually be sticking out the legs of my shorts. That's not the case with the 9" version of the ExOfficio Give-N-Go boxers though. The 9" version is long enough that they don't ride up without being so long they are constantly hanging out my shorts.

Material

These are made of a blend of Nylon and Lycra Spandex. 92% Nylon and 8% Lycra Spandex to be specific. Also note the 'mesh' in the name, while they're not see through when you're wearing them if you hold them up to the light you can certainly see light through them easily.

This meshyness (totally a word) means that they breath really well. While they're not a base layer, I've been on a number of windy runs in the snow on the local mountains with nothing but these boxers and a pair of nylon shorts between my sensitive bits and the outside world and I've found them just as warm as any other pair of underpants I've ever used on the runs.

Fit & Function

Like I said above, the 9" is a great length in these shorts. Long enough that they don't ride up yet not so long they show themselves off unless you're in short running shorts.

Functionally, they're oh so comfortable. I've had them on 4 hour runs in the rain and out on hot days walking around in Tennessee followed by a day sitting at a conference. I've been stuck after my runs dealing with kids and dishes and making lunches before 4 hours later getting a shower. Where other pairs of boxers have left me with a good funk going on and some chaffing after sitting in them for hours after activity, this has never been the case with the ExOfficio Give-N-Go Sport Mesh boxers.

Recommendation

Yup I love these go get a pair. I've since talked to a number of friends that swear by the same style as well. I have no idea why no one had advice when I started this journey and purchased a bunch of different pairs of underpants, but seemingly people have opinions now and they pretty much all land with the ExOfficio Give-N-Go Sport Mesh boxer.
